Tigers 4 Yankees 2 | Stanton’s revenge not enough

The New York Yankees could not sweep the doubleheader on Monday as Domingo German and Adam Warren both struggled to limit the Detroit Tigers offense in the 4-2 loss.

Turning Point

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Warren relieved German with a runner on second base. The Yankees were trailing 3-2 and after a Miguel Cabrera double, Warren faced Victor Martinez. Martinez wrapped an RBI double to give the Tigers much-needed breathing room and a 4-2 lead.

Three Takeaways

— Domingo German was steady for 6.2 innings. He allowed four runs and struck out three in the loss. This was the longest start of his young career yet he could not limit the Tigers offense enough to pick up a win. German has been good enough as a replacement for Jordan Montgomery, but German leaves more to be desired for in his starts.

— Aaron Judge had a very rough day at the plate. Judge played both games of the doubleheader and had a day to forget. Judge struck out eight times on the day with five coming in the second game. Judge and Yankee fans should not panic, but it is something to keep an eye on in the next few games.

— Adam Warren had a rough return to the big leagues. After returning from a rehab assignment, Warren was thrown right into the proverbial fire and he crumbled. Warren gave up an RBI double to Victor Martinez, which gave the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Warren did rebound with an otherwise solid 1.1 innings pitched. Warren will most likely pitch better with more appearances with the big league team.

Player of the Game

Giancarlo Stanton hit a mammoth home run in the 4-2 losing effort. Stanton had been hit by his personal foe Mike Fiers and the two exchanged words. Stanton hit a 456-foot home run to send Fiers a lesson about hitting him.
